Buying or upgrading a PC?

When you buy a new, ready-to-go PC it always comes with a ton of software that you don't actually need or doesn't work or makes you buy after a 30 day trial you knew nothing about suddenly run's out.

People are scared stiff of viruses so it's pretty sneaky to bundle an anti virus package on the machine that then forces you to pay for it 30 days later normally charging between £35-£40. You just spent hundreds of the PC and just weeks after you're being asked to cough up even more money for something on the PC you just bought. Sound familiar?

 

Is there a better path to take?

There are some amazing deals for new PC's or upgrades at the moment and the best ones, in our opinion, are the ones where they don't come with anything installed so you can instantly set up the PC for the very best optimization. Manufacturer PC's are normally set up fairly well and we can supply these but we do recommend that preinstalled, useless software be removed and replaced by better, often cheaper (if not free) programs.

The largest culprits are Microsoft Office (Student Edition) and Norton/Symantec Anti Virus both of which will suddenly start asking you to pay after a certain amount of time.

Save yourself some money and get Open Office (Free!) and Kaspersky Antivirus or Internet Security, much cheaper and, in our opinion better, system protection for at least £10 less. Although you can can free antivirus from AVG, we have found that Kaspersky does protect your system better, is updated more frequently and doesnt take resources that are needed by your system for doing what you need to use it for.

When you buy a PC or Laptop from us and are in our area, whether or not it is a manufactures PC or one we have built for you, we will have:

• Obtained all the updates both for windows and all software drivers.
• Installed either a free virus checker or installed and updated your system with Kaspersky
• Install software that will pretty much eliminate spyware from ever getting on your PC
• Run your new system for at least 24 hours at full speed to ensure you recieve a fully tested, reliable system.

We will deliver your system (within our area) and:

• Install your printer, scanner, camera etc
• Set up your broadband
• If necessary, transfer the files from your old PC onto your new PC.
• If you are a new user, we will take a little time to teach you the basics. Internet, email etc

Refurbished v New

Simply put, they are the same, exept the refurb systems may have been sold before, have had the boxes opened as demonstration or have been bought by a customer and returned on a "no quibble" returns policy for any reason. The item has been returned to the manufacturer, tested, reboxed and because they have been sold once, they cannot sell it again as a new item. Therefore you get a fully guaranteed system for a fraction of its new price. You get the same software, guarantee from the manufacturer and get the same service from us.

We will listen to our customers. The kind of work you want to do with your system. Business or Pleasure, Gaming or Office, Photo Editing, Watching Films? Each and every answer you give determines a different set up.

We will never try and sell you something that you will never need. Where is the point of selling you a machine with a £150-£250 graphics card designed for gaming, if you want to use it for your doing your accounts and sending letters?

Support our customers. Like most suppliers, we want your business. Unlike some suppliers, when you have bought a system from us, we won't wash our hands of you. We keep in contact to make sure everything is still running smoothly, we can remotely connect to your system with permission to rectify any problems you may be having with software (operating system only) and discuss any further needs, training etc.
